Aromatherapy Massage - What is it all about?

http://www.freeimages.co.uk/ You may have been thinking that it would be nice to book a massage to help you relax, feel good and help heal your body.  However you may be wondering what aromatherapy massage is all about….what is different about it as opposed to Swedish, deep tissue or sports massage? The massage medium used in aromatherapy is different.  Essential oils are chosen during the consultation (to address issues such as insomnia, fatigue or muscle tension) and then diluted in a carrier oil (a pure vegetable or nut oil) which absorbs well into the skin. Aromatherapy massage shares movements such as petrissage and effleurage with Swedish massage, however the harsher hacking and cupping movements are not included.  The aim is to gently work on the kinks and sore spots in your body utilising the therapeutic properties of the essential oils.  Massage movements are smooth, flowing to relax the mind and body.  Acupressure (thumb pressure...

In recent months, I have read an increasing number of Blogs, Facebook posts and websites recommending that individuals orally ingest essential oils.  The core curriculum produced, by the Aromatherapy council (in the UK), when outlining methods of use and application of essential oils, makes no reference to the oral administration of the oils. As a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapist I am aware that their stance is that the oral administration of essential oils is a potentially high-risk practice.  They state that oral ingestion of essential oils is not covered by their membership or insurance cover, therefore it is worrying that members of the public are being encouraged to use oils in this way.
